Today’s lesson is jobs vs function or more accurately ‘how we do our work’ vs what our role or title is. In my life, I have had many jobs: lifeguard, pizza maker, IT guy, faculty development, volunteer, teacher, and more. When I was in Las Vegas, I was talking to my cousin about passion, purpose, and jobs. For me, my jobs have always been a way for me to help people. My passion is to do anything and everything to help someone have a better day, week, life. To me, the job I do is just a vehicle to help people. It could be washing cars to bartending to being an underwater basket weaver. Too often I think, we get caught up in our title or position. We look to see how our job makes us better. In fact, we should be looking at how we can use our jobs as a vehicle to help us express our God-given talents.<\/p>\n

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,” – Colossians 3:23<\/a><\/p>\n

“Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.” – Deuteronomy 24:14<\/a><\/p>\n

\n

The point of this lesson is to find your passion. To find a way to use your circumstance, your job, everything to fulfill\u00a0God’s will. You may be asking what is God’s Will. He gave you gifts and talents for you to use. Use them. Find a way in whatever you do to use them. It’s not about making pizzas or widgets or even teaching a subject, it’s about providing the love, comfort, discipline, help, and information to help someone be successful in life. When you do that you will find that your job or position may change. Your love of the Lord is shown through using his gifts and you will be rewarded.<\/p>\n
