I especially love breads and pastas. Yes, I know they aren&#8217;t great for me and I need to eat in moderation. Bread, and especially breaking bread, is a huge part of many cultures. It&#8217;s a sign of friendship, communion, and sharing.<\/p>\n<p>Today was the first day of classes in our medical school. One student brought in a loaf of sourdough bread, that he made, and the entire class broke off chunks and ate it. The faculty and staff who were hear also enjoyed it. I didn&#8217;t know he made it from scratch at first but it even added to the moment. All of us, shared this loaf of bread. We are connected as a college body moving forward together.<\/p>\n<p>Life is a lot like that. We share bread, we share our lives, we share our spirits\u00a0with each other. We become one family.<\/p>\n<h5>Scripture on Breaking Bread<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"text Acts-2-42\"><sup class=\"versenum\">\u00a0<\/sup>They devoted themselves to the apostles\u2019 teaching\u00a0and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread\u00a0and to prayer.<\/span>\u00a0&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/my.bible.com\/111\/act.2.42\" class=\"verseLink\">Acts 2:42<\/a><\/li>\n<li>And taking the five loaves and the two fish, he\u00a0looked up to heaven and\u00a0said a blessing and broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the people. And he divided the two fish among them all. &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/my.bible.com\/111\/mrk.6.41\" class=\"verseLink\">Mark 6:41<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and\u00a0after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said,\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">\u201cTake, eat;\u00a0this is my body.\u201d &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/my.bible.com\/111\/mat.26.26\" class=\"verseLink\">Matthew 26:26<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>Reflection<\/h5>\n<p>The Lord&#8217;s supper or communion is around the sharing of the bread and the wine. It&#8217;s reminding us that we are connected to the blood and the body of Christ. Even after the last supper, the disciples came together sharing the word and the bread in prayer.<\/p>\n<p>We are meant to share what the Lord has given us. It strengthens us to know we are part of something greater. when I came to work today, I didn&#8217;t know I would share in this breaking of the bread. I don&#8217;t know if the students realize the symbolism of this and the next four years. I will remember that I am part of this group.<\/p>\n<p>Who do you share bread with? Is it your food and your supplies, or do you give freely to others? Do you invite them to your table?<\/p>\n<h5>Charge<\/h5>\n<p>First, think about who is n your circle. Who do you openly break bread with? Have you increased the size of your circle? Next, try to break\u00a0bread with someone new. Share a cookie or some other food.
