{"id":6683,"date":"2021-11-21T16:33:37","date_gmt":"2021-11-21T22:33:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/roberts-lieb.com\/faithbites\/?p=6683"},"modified":"2021-11-21T16:34:10","modified_gmt":"2021-11-21T22:34:10","slug":"november-21-when-helping-hurts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/roberts-lieb.com\/faithbites\/2021\/11\/21\/november-21-when-helping-hurts\/","title":{"rendered":"November 21 &#8211; When Helping Hurts"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 id=\"4-325-when-helping-hurts\">4:325 &#8211; When Helping Hurts <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>#faithbites #faithjourney helping<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 id=\"setting\">Setting<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Have you ever heard the term, &#8220;When helping hurts?&#8221; Not only is it a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/When_Helping_Hurts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">book about how Christians can  help those in need without hurting<\/a>, its a philosophy that we should all use. As many of you know, I want to help anyone I can. I will sacrifice myself at the deop of a hate to make youe life easier. This has shown me three situations. The first is a grateful person who is getting over whatever hump the need. That is a good thing. The other two aren&#8217;t so good.  First is being used by others for help when its not needed. It&#8217;s perspnappy draining and then you beckme a crutch for them.  The last, and in my opinion the worst, is when your help actually hurts them. This is the unwanted, unrequested, and unneeded help. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are not and should not try to be anyone&#8217;s Savior. Jesus has that covered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today&#8217;s Questions: How do we help without hurting? As Christians when should we help and when are we not the right person for the job. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 id=\"scripture\">Scripture<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><a href=\"https:\/\/my.bible.com\/111\/pro.19.17\" class=\"verseLink\">Proverbs 19:17<\/a> &#8211; Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the&nbsp;Lord, and he will repay him for his deed<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/my.bible.com\/111\/deu.15.11\" class=\"verseLink\">Deuteronomy 15:11<\/a> &#8211; For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, \u2018You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.\u2019<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/my.bible.com\/111\/rom.12.13\" class=\"verseLink\">Romans 12:13<\/a> &#8211; Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 id=\"reflection\">Reflection<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>We know that we should love others as ourselves. Jesus tell us to love God and love people. He also tells us to serve others. We have to know when to serve and not. For instance, you wouldnt serve a shrimp boil to someone who&#8217;s allergic to shellfish. You may think you are shwoing love through a meal but actually can be killing them through that service. I know thats a bit extreme but I hope it makes sense. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For me, and its hard, I&#8217;ve begun to ask. I know it sounds strange but saying may I help or how can I help is the best way to give help. Yes, its not as spontaneous as showing up with food, but it makes sure your help is needed.  And yes, when you have a deeper connection with someone you can anticipate some needs. Until then asking is the best way. If you don&#8217;t you could be maming matters worse for them or for yourself.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As we close, rememebr that we can&#8217;t define who is needy or what help they need. We are to serve those in need, which means helping to fufil their needs not our own. Be gracious with your time and energy in ways that are helping and not hurting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 id=\"prayer\">Prayer<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Lord God, you made us with servant hearts. When we see need, we want to fix it. We are learning that sometimes, even with good intentions, our help can hurt. Help us to know when and how to help and when to stand down. We also pray that if we arent the <a href=\"http:\/\/roberts-lieb.com\/faithbites\/2021\/01\/09\/january-9-right-message-wrong-messenger\/\">right messenger<\/a> or helper, that you send the person more qualified to help. We want all your children to have their needs met.
