Today’s lesson is about persistence and taking things step by step. (I know, many of you are now singing, Oh baby….No NKOTB here). Life is filled with so many things to get done. We want to go to step 10 instead of step one through ten. The other problem is often we don’t know there are ten steps and think maybe one or two is all we have to do.<\/p>\n

I’ve been working with a professor to record micro-lectures. Think short videos. She records them on her computer, uploads them to an application we use, I take them, tweak them a bit, and add them to our learning management system. Seems pretty easy. The problem is each time something seems to go wonky with the process. Either they are in the wrong place or I can’t see them or I can’t use them. Today, it struck me, it wasn’t her fault, but mine. My understanding of the permissions was wrong. It wasn’t very self-explanatory, here I was\u00a0thinking she couldn’t figure it out time after time, was actually we both had a misunderstanding about the process. Here’s another example:\u00a0We’ve all seen doctor’s and see what they do. Working in a medical school and seeing everything they have to do to get to that point, just blows my mind. But I still think at times, with Google\u00a0and shadowing a doctor, I could be a doctor. Silly silly.<\/p>\n

So many things in life are like that. Getting a promotion. Being a parent. Being a spouse. Being a friend. Going on a trip. Life is filled with tasks and opportunities that all have steps to go through.\u00a0 Too often we look at the end and imagine ourselves in those roles or positions and don’t think of the work it takes to get there.<\/p>\n

“And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good.” – 2 Thessalonians 3:13<\/a><\/p>\n

“Stand firm, and you will win life.” – Luke 21:19<\/a><\/p>\n

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,\u00a0because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”<\/p>\n

\n

We face trials and we want them to end. We want to win the race. I don’t know many marathoners who love running 26.2 miles but love completing that challenge. I don’t know many people who love mowing the grass, well I do the first mow of the spring, but love a nice lawn. We like the end. But in faith, the destination isn’t the end all be all, the journey is what is important. We should never tire of doing good. I love the Luke verse “stand firm, and you will win life.”. We all have to go through these steps, no matter how challenging. We can’t start at retirement and work backward. We look towards the end but need to walk with God, step by step.<\/p>\n

Are you ready to take each step as they come? Are you willing to view the journey as the prize, not just the destination? Are you willing to walk all of these steps with Christ Jesus?<\/p>\n
