Today’s lesson is it’s not all about me. I know you all love Sol, but it’s not all about me. Or all about you. It is so easy to ask questions like “What’s in it for me? or “I did this for everyone else, when is my turn” or “This is my lane, let me just do it”. It happens all the time. I had a prime example this morning at worship, that I’m a bit ashamed about.<\/p>\n

Pretty much every Sunday, I help usher. We have a large sanctuary and it takes many ushers. I normally start in the front of the sanctuary on the right side and get the offer and the attendance cards. Then I bring the offering up to the altar and give it to one of the pastors. Today, I was a bit late signing up and I got the back half of the sanctuary. I know this is pretty petty. I was thinking, hey that’s my spot. I want to be up front. I want to bring the offerings to the pastor. Then I stopped in my tracks. Seriously, Sol? You are getting worked up about this. This isn’t about you. It’s about the collecting to do God’s work. I was embarrassed\u00a0by it. Then at the end of the offering, I realized that I did something not according to plan. I started collecting the attendance cards before the people giving the offering came down of the altar. One of the guys told me that and I said, I haven’t done the back before. He said, maybe you should do it more and learn about how that part is done. I also got a different type of card then I had before and had to learn how to handle it. That made me doubly\u00a0ashamed of myself. Then I realized, God was giving me a lesson. A lesson in humility and teaching me how to do something new. So yes, it’s not all about Sol, it’s all about Jesus.<\/p>\n

“He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” – colossians 1:17<\/a><\/p>\n

We think we are important, and we are to God. We are important for the works we do when we celebrate Christ and live like Christ. But it’s not all about me. I may not be a thief, but at the same time, everyone doesn’t live through me and because of me. I may give and help people but I cannot free people from sin and death. I may do all sorts of things to worship the Lord, but I am not before all things and hold everything together, even though sometimes it feels like the world is on our shoulders. It’s not, it’s on Gods.<\/p>\n

It’s hard to admit that being recognized and being in front is important to me. It’s hard to think that I can be that petty at times. But I didn’t say anything about it. I listened to the Lord and he knocked me around a bit. As a Pastor said to me, God’s been knocking on my door for a long time, it’s just taken me a long time to answer. It’s not all about me, it’s all about Jesus. And I’ve asked for and recieved his forgivness. What an awesome God.<\/p>\n

Are you willing to admit that it all about Jesus? Are you willing to see the petty things you do and listen to the Holy Spirit to improve yourself?<\/p>\n
