Today’s lesson is about sharing. We are made to be in community with each other. As young children, one of the biggest lessons is sharing and the hardest lesson is usually sharing our toys. I see my kids all the time fighting about sharing toys. One child will pick up the other’s toy and start playing with it. The child’s who’s toy it is, starts yelling that they want their toy back to play with it. Mind you, that child wasn’t even thinking about that toy, but I digress.<\/p>\n

We share all the time, or I should say are supposed to and it makes us feel better. Last night, at our school’s auction, I went to the washroom, walked out and saw one of our pastors there. I walked over to him, just to say high, and somehow we started talking about religion, my background as being Jewish, my faith journey, and more. It was enlightening for me and I hope for him as well. When I told him my story, he said, God has been really kicking you in the right direction for a long time. I reflected on that and agreed. He’s been there all along. Pretty awesome stuff. It’s one of the moments you can’t orchestrate, it just happens.<\/p>\n

“John answered, \u201cAnyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.\u201d” – Luke 3:11<\/a><\/p>\n

“Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.” – Romans 12:13<\/a><\/p>\n

“Rather, be openhanded and freely lend them whatever they need.” – Deuteronomy 15:8<\/a><\/p>\n

\n

John talks about giving of shirts if your neighbor has one. That is also giving of yourself. Your story has as much power as your riches. Giving of it may impact in ways you never know. At the auction last night, during a time to raise money for a specific fun, the auctioneer said something that touched my heart. He said we want to give everyone a chance to give what they are able, even prayers are welcome and needed. Sharing is essential. Many time, writing a check is the easy way to go. Sharing a story or time is harder. They are both needed. In Deuteronomy, free lend them whatever they need. The funny thing about life is you may not know what someone needs. It could be money, it could be a sandwich, it could be an ear to listen to, it could be hearing about the Lord, it could be a hug. The Holy Spirit will help. I don’t think this will stop my kids from fighting over their toys, but we can help them learn about sharing of the heart and the wallet as often as possible.<\/p>\n

Are you willing to share your story? Are you willing to listen to the Holy Spirit on how best to help those in need?<\/p>\n
