Today’s lesson is about infatuation. We have all been infatuated with something or someone. We want to be with them. We want to learn from them. We want to be them. We want to be apart of them. I’m not talking about lust, rather infatuation. Let’s define these to get started.<\/p>\n

Infatuation<\/strong> – an intense but short-lived passion or admiration for someone or something.<\/p>\n

Lust<\/strong> – a very strong sexual desire.<\/p>\n

Of course, you could be infatuated with someone and lust after them. This lust can lead to adultery, theft, gluttony, murder, and many other horrendous sins. Let’s be honest, I am a person who is infatuated\u00a0with many things. From video games to television shows to movies to food to politics to people to entertainment to exercise\u00a0to business opportunities and more. This is beyond a simple like. It is when you think about something day in and day out. I was like that when I was a beach body coach. I loved doing it but it was overwhelming to me. It’s when my admiration for a person’s ideas, life, or outlook turn into more. It’s when you begin to change your practices to match them. I thought when I was writing what has turned into faith bites, I was infatuated. That, of course, has grown into what I am starting to see as my work.<\/p>\n

Infatuation can lead to lust and other sins but it can also lead to dedication and a new path for you.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.” – Matthew 10:37-39<\/a><\/p>\n

“\u00a0<\/sup>But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.” – Mark 4:17<\/a><\/p>\n

\n

Infatuation is fun. It helps us feel ‘over the moon’. It makes us giddy. It gives us a new interest and new passion. it is fun. The key is to make sure we are true when we make decisions. That we see our infatuations for that, an infatuation, and not a rooted life course. In both Matthew and Mark, they talk about losing it (their life) or falling away (turning their back on Jesus) when they are not true,\u00a0when they have no roots. We must also be careful that our infatuation with someone doesn’t turn into lust or worse that we confuse either of these two with love.<\/p>\n

Go out. Be passionate. Be infatuated. Find new things to have crazy passion for. But stay grounded. Remember, we need to take up our cross and be passionate for Christ. The glitz, the glamour, the flash, are trappings of being a Christian. Loving God and Loving People is truly what Christianity is about.\u00a0 For God is Love. Jesus is Love. The world is temporary, God’s love is eternal.<\/p>\n

Are you able to see the what you are infatuated with in life? Are you able to step away when that infatuation hurts your relationships with People or God? Are you willing to find your passion in Christ and not let it be a fleeting infatuation?<\/p>\n
