Today is our white coat ceremony for our college. This is when students formally start their medical Education. They are pledging their lives to help cure the sick and improve lives of those around them. It’s funny that the theme of doctoring came up during church service today.<\/p>\n

We all get sick from time to time. Some of us are stubborn and won’t go until we’re near deaths door. Others go all the time to make sure they are on the right track and living healthy. We come up will all kinds of excuses not to go get the help we need. From availability to cost to fear to stubbornness, we all come up with reasons not to seek help.<\/p>\n

Replace sickness with sin. We are all sick. We all need help. We make excuses not to get the spiritual help we need. From guilt to fear to stubbornness to not being good enough, we come up with reasons not to seek Christ. God’s love is free and something we all need. If we seek him, he will heal us.<\/p>\n

Scripture<\/h5>\n

After this, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name of Levi sitting at his tax booth. \u201cFollow me,\u201d<\/span> Jesus said to him,<\/span> and Levi got up, left everything and followed him.<\/span> Then Levi held a great banquet for Jesus at his house, and a large crowd of tax collectorsand others were eating with them.<\/span> But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law who belonged to their sect complained to his disciples, \u201cWhy do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?\u201d<\/span>
\nJesus answered them, \u201cIt is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.<\/span><\/span> I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.\u201d – Luke 5:27-32<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Reflection<\/h5>\n

God has a habit of using broken people throughout history. Levi, being a tax collector, the scum of the day, dropped everything and became a disciple. While that is important, what really speaks to all of us is the end of the scripture. Jesus didn’t come for righteous (healthy), he came for the sinner (sick), just as doctor’s cure the sick.<\/p>\n

We may think we are on the right path and not sinners, but we are. We sin everyday. Our saving grace is Jesus. He is our physician and will cure and forgive all of us. None of our excuses work for him. He is free, he is available, he already knows who we are and what we have done, we don’t need to hide. Let’s go visit our Father and be healed<\/p>\n

Charge<\/h5>\n

Are you a sinner? Then visit your father. Yesterday at Sunday school a young boy asked how to you talk to God if you never had. I said just say “Hey God, it’s me. Here’s what’s going on”. The boy said “That works”? I said yes it does. Just seek him and he will answer.<\/p>\n

Prayer<\/h5>\n

Lord, we are all sick. We need your brand of healing and forgiveness. Remind us that none of us are righteous and we need to be healed. Help us to never forget that we are sinners and need you. We may think we can do it on our own, but we know we can’t. Forgive us for being self-righteous. Help us to be humble and accept your healing.
