Sometimes, I rack my brain thinking of how to help others in pain or just in daily life. While we have different and varied skills, sometimes, just your presence is enough.<\/p>\n<p>Today, I asked a friend how she was doing, and her response was &#8220;fine&#8221;, then ok. I knew that wasn&#8217;t the case, and it ended with a good discussion and getting things of her chest. I had others who just wanted to be in my presence and listen to my stories to take their mind of their stress and troubles.<\/p>\n<p>None of this cost me anything but a little time. While we are all very busy people, relationships matter. Taking the time to be there for people, even if they don&#8217;t take you up on it, is of great service. Rejoicing with one another. Suffering with our neighbors. Weeping with our friends. Are all ways that we can be present. When we are empathetic we are kind. No where in the verses does it say we have to perform acts or spend money. Our service is listening and being there.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes just sitting and listening is what is needed. Other times may be telling jokes and stories.<\/p>\n<p>However God has called you to be present, just be in the moment. Your presence can dramatically impact someones life.<\/p>\n<h5>Charge<\/h5>\n<p>If you want to be present for someone, you have to be present. I know that sounds self explanatory, but it&#8217;s true. They need to know you are open and ready for them. It may be as simple as asking them how they are and checking your gut to know when Ok means ok and when it doesn&#8217;t. A simple thing is to tell someone that you are there for them and you really are. Baby steps.<\/p>\n<p>Prayer<\/p>\n<p>Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the many gifts you give us. Sometimes we think we need to move mountains to help someone. Other times, we just need to be present. Help us to know the difference and be that ear or shoulder for someone in need.
