Today’s lesson is on busy work. I hate busy work. I love to be engaged in active work that impacts people’s lives. Today I spent nearly 3 hours formatting a word document to upload into a quiz for a course I am building. It was irritating me. I get paid way to much to be copying and pasting into a word document and to the learning management system. My time is more valuable\u00a0than that. I need to be doing the things that will radically alter people’s lives. I need to move mountains, part the sea, walk on water, and create things that change the world.\u00a0 Wait a second. Those tasks aren’t mine. Those tasks are within the purview of the Lord. He creates. He moves mountains. He parts the sea and walks on water. My work, though dull at times, is important. Building a quiz for a course that will help medical students check their knowledge, that will help them move forward in their education, that will eventually turn them into doctors, is important. It is hard to see the long-term impacts of the ripple in the calm lake, but it is there and powerful.<\/p>\n

Whatever\u00a0your hand finds to do, do it with all your might,\u00a0for in the realm of the dead,\u00a0where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.”- Ecclesiastes 9:9-10<\/a><\/p>\n

We are here for God’s glory. He gives us work to do. This work may be toilsome. It may be boring, but there is a reason for it. To build character. To build resilience. To help others. We will be rewarded in this life and the next. We will work for kings. This isn’t easy. I want to pontificate. I want to make grandiose\u00a0plans. But sometimes, most of the times, the hard work is what is needed. Let no one say work is beneath them.<\/p>\n

Are you willing to attack your work with all your might? Are you willing to use your hands to further God’s Kingdom on Earth? Are you willing to use the gifts he gave you in all the circumstances you are in?<\/p>\n

I am willing (with the help of God)<\/p>\n
