Today’s lesson is about the power of greeting someone.<\/p>\n

The morning bell rings and chaos ensues at a K-8 school. Students talking to their friends. Parents frantically hugging, kissing, and dropping off their kids while trying to rush off to work. Teachers getting ready for the day ahead. Noise and craziness but excitement reigns. This is the situation at most schools. At my daughter’s school, there is one difference. Every morning either the principal, assistant principal or one of the teachers stands at the main door to the school and personally greets every student by name. Not only that, but they give a high five, fist bump, or a hug, and a smile. They take it one step further and great all of the parents as well.\u00a0 This is not a required duty. This is something that they enjoy. Their smile, their name recognition, their touch, impacts those students and parents. They feel connected. They feel they belong. They feel love.<\/p>\n

This small act, dramatically adds to the culture of the school and shows our children how we should interact with each other. Not a fake, ‘how ya doin’, but a really honest ‘glad you are here’ and ‘may the Lord bless you’. How awesome is that?<\/p>\n

“Therefore encourage one another\u00a0and build each other up,\u00a0just as in fact you are doing.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:11<\/a><\/p>\n

“All the brothers and sisters here send you greetings. Greet one another with a holy kiss.” – 1 Corinthians 16:20<\/a><\/p>\n

Build each other up. Greet each other with a holy kiss. How powerful is that? How earth changing would that be if we genuinely, truly, greeted each other with the peace of the Lord. Even if they don’t believe, that’s ok. They will see you how the Lord works in you. How genuine you are in faith. This is powerful. This is what we are called to do.<\/p>\n

Are you willing to greet someone new? Are you willing to reach out to someone in a way that is comfortable for them? Are you willing to show your love of the Lord through your interactions with others?<\/p>\n

I am willing (with the help of God)<\/p>\n
