Before church this morning, I walked into the washroom to take care of business before service began. Two older gentlemen were in the bathroom and one said to the other so and so wouldn’t have made it this far if it wasn’t for you. They continued talking about taking so and so out for dinner, visiting with them regularly, and helping. him through everything. Then the first guy, not the one who was congratulating the other one for helping<\/g>, said he did it too for another friend. Then they talked about how they can’t take so and so out for dinner much anymore because of the weather but they are helping where they could. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two old men in the bathroom, really showed what it is to care for someone else. There was no airs of being superior, no sense of having to do it because they were expected to, rather they did it because they wanted to. They wanted to give so and so a good life as he couldn’t do much on his own anymore. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are supposed to live in the way that Christ did, by helping those around him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scripture<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Put on then, as\u00a0God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved,\u00a0compassionate hearts,\u00a0kindness,\u00a0humility, meekness, and patience,\u00a0bearing with one another and,\u00a0if one has a complaint against another,\u00a0forgiving each other;\u00a0as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on\u00a0love, which\u00a0binds everything together in\u00a0perfect harmony.\u00a0And let\u00a0the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called\u00a0in one body. And\u00a0be thankful.\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup>Let\u00a0the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom,\u00a0singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,\u00a0with thankfulness in your hearts to God.\u00a0And\u00a0whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus,\u00a0giving thanks to God the Father through him. – Colossians 3:12-17<\/a> (ESV)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reflection<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

The verses above were our scripture for service today. During the sermon, we talked about what clothes we put on and how what we wear impacts how others see us. These verses remind us to put on the clothing of God and show compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, patience, allowance, forgiveness, and above all love. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two gentlemen this morning where showing all of this. There love for their friends was clear and center for anyone to see. There was nothing but Christlike brotherly love. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sure, we can’t do everything for everyone all the time. Of course, we get mad at choices people make. While we may disagree with each other, we don’t have to be disagreeable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As we look at the example of Christ and these two older men, is there someone in your life that you care for? How do we embody that spirit and make everyday a day to care for someone else?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Charge<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Are you a caretaker for someone? Do you try to find a way to share your compassion for someone else by wearing the clothing of God? I will use the charge our pastor gave today. Read the book of Colossians, it’s a short one. Learn how we are supposed to act towards each other. Forgive and wrap each other in love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lord, let me care for someone out of the goodness of my heart. Let me not seek recognition or do it for selfish reasons. Allow my heart and mind to be clothed in your word and direction always. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
