One of the weekly assignments my eldest has is to memorize scripture. She studies it, recites it, and gets a sticker for it. I’ve asked her if she remembers it a week or two later and she doesn’t. She may have the concept on some but not the word. No internalization of the reason for remembering it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In medical school, I see some of our students studying frantically to memorize facts and figures. When the test comes, they recite the information, and move to the next module. Some internalize it and then use it to build on it for deeper knowledge in the future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I personally have a terrible memory which led me to hate both biology and organic chemistry as it was rote memorization. I did much better in the inorganic chemistry and physics as it was application. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bible is like that for me. I know people who can recite verse after verse. I on the other hand, am not very good at it. What I have learned, through my #faithjourney and in writing #faithbites, is the message of the scripture. I may not know the word for word or the passage, but I know enough to look it up. I have internalized the message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
