Today’s lesson is about the validity of work or all work having value.
\nI often go through life and see what I do is important. Sometimes, more important than the work of others. I think that others should be doing the work I need them to do in the order I need it done it. Rather than thinking, why did that person chose to do that task now instead of later? What was their thought process or their reasoning for it?
\nThe answer for this can be seen in the paragraph above. I used the word I 5 times in two sentences. The world isn’t about me. Yes, I am part of it, but it isn’t about me. I need to appreciate that someone is doing work. Yes, not everything someone does is helpful, I realize that. But when someone really makes an effort, appreciate it.<\/p>\n

“Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:11<\/a><\/p>\n

“Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, \u2018Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,\u2019 when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother’s eye.” – Luke 6:41-42<\/a><\/p>\n

\n

Does it really matter that the floor was swept before the dishwasher was empty? Or the laundry was moved before warming up the oven? In the long run, not at all. As our first scripture says, let’s build each other up. Thank those doing work for what they are doing. Encourage them. I fall into the Luke text too often. I criticize\u00a0in the name of help. I tear down, in the name of trying to build someone up. I look at the speck in their eye, instead of working on the log that is stuck in mine. I am often wrong and beg forgiveness of my fellow man and of the Lord.<\/p>\n

Next time someone helps you, try not to find fault in it. Instead look at how they gave their time and energy helping you. Then think of how you can communicate but that love for them as well as any pointers or hints in the future. We all make mistakes. We all have logs in our eye as well as specks. A helpful word, carefully chosen, of course, can help reduce these issues and the size of the log in our eye.<\/p>\n
