Today’s lesson is about who we are and how we are better together.<\/p>\n

Many of you know my daughter is selling girl scout cookies and I am the troop’s cookie dad. Last weekend, I talked to all the girls about the different varieties of cookies. From thin mints to S’More to trefoils and more. What was in the cookie, how they\u00a0tasted, which ones were Vegan or Gluten-Free, and which cookies the scouts liked. Some said they liked this or didn’t like that. Then we talked about how cookies can be paired with other foods and drinks. For instance, we talked about the Trefoil (a shortbread) cookie and how it’s wonderful with Coffee. While the kids don’t drink coffee, they remembered that and even put that fact into their videos.<\/p>\n

You may be wondering how cookies have anything to do with scripture or faith. Well, they don’t. What they do is illustrate that some things are better when paired with something else. We are like that. God wants us to be in communion and fellowship with each other. We have strengths and weaknesses. The best way to reduce our weakness is to be partnered with (or paired) with someone who has our weakness as a strength. This pairing can be in the form of a friendship, a marriage, a family tie, an accountability tie, even a work relationship.\u00a0 We can be the best version of ourselves when we find where we belong and with whom.<\/p>\n

“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in Unity” – Psalm 133:1<\/a><\/p>\n

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds,<\/span>\u00a025\u00a0<\/sup>not giving up meeting together,\u00a0as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another\u2014and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” – Hebrews 10:24-25<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

\n

We don’t know when the Day will come. We don’t know what tomorrow brings. We yearn for connection. Some want more than others. This also doesn’t mean you are weak by yourself. A Trefoil is still a good cookie by itself. The Savannah Smiles (it’s a tart lemon cookie) is wonderful. You put those with coffee and they are outstanding. Think of how what your strengths are and how you could pair with someone else to make really utilize your skills and abilities. And while the world isn’t always sweet like a cookie, it can be just as fulfilling when you are in communion with one another.<\/p>\n
