Today’s lesson is on our true self or what masks we wear around others.<\/p>\n

The other day at work, I laughed out loud. There was no hesitation. No second guessing. Just doing a little dance, being my self, and having fun. Then it dawned on me. I was only my 100% honest true self around one group at work. In all my other interactions there was a filter. I was wearing a mask. I know, you have to understand your audience and adjust behaviors. I also know that some behaviors are not appropriate at times or with people. I get it. To me, those are filters, not a mask. A mask is when we change who we are to fit with public opinion or what we think others expect of us.<\/p>\n

I wonder, how often are we wearing a mask. We aren’t Batman but we still wear the mask. At home? At Church? At the doctor? With your family? With your spouse? With your kids?<\/p>\n

If we didn’t wear a mask but were our selves, what would we do? How would that change our relationships? Our own self-worth?<\/p>\n

“See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.” – Colossians 2:8<\/a> (ESV)<\/p>\n

“<\/span>Do not conform\u00a0to the pattern of this world,\u00a0but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.\u00a0Then you will be able to test and approve what God\u2019s will is\u2014his good, pleasing\u00a0and perfect will.” – Romans 12:2<\/a><\/p>\n

\n

I struggle with filters vs the mask. I want to tear the mask off and show the world who God intended me to be. I don’t want to be captive by ’empty deceit, according to human tradition’ or ‘conform to the pattern of this world’. I want to use my gifts as they were intended. I know this will be a struggle for the rest of my life. But that one moment yesterday, I was free. My heart felt light and I was happy. How can you make your heart light and happy?<\/p>\n
