4:241 – Just Keep Swimming…for Now

#faithbite #faithjourney keep

Setting

If ypucr ever watched “Finding Nemo”, you know that Dory says, when life gets hard or your scared, “Just Keep on Swimming.” That is how I love most of my life, if I keep swimming I’ll make it, someday. The problem is even the best swimmers need to rest. They even need to slow down or take an off day. The body has to heal from the exertion. Our souls are that way too. This weekend I got to see my brother for the first time in three years, did too much driving, chores, and everything.I feel like I need to keep swimming or I’ll crash and fall behind. Maybe this is what happens after the “for now,” of just keep swimming. It’s time to take a rest and let someone else swim for a while.

Todays Questions: How do you know when it’s time to rest? How can God help your know that resting is ok?

Scripture
  • Mark 6:32 – And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat.
  • Psalm 3:24 – If you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
Reflection

We will keep this short and sweet so I can try to rest. (And you too). Jesus often went away to pray and rest. He needed to recharge. His ministry didn’t fall apart when he rested? In Mark he tells the Apostles to go off on their own and rest. They had been so burned out that even food wasn’t enjoyable. You can’t be a good servant of Christ if you are so stressed and burned out that you can’t enjoy torhrs company.

The Psalms verse is what struck me. God is telling us to sleep and it will be restful. We shouldn’t be afraid of what will happen. This can apply to our physical health sleeping but Lao yo everything we have on our plates. If we truly trust God, we can turn it over to him, and rest.

i know this isn’t easy, trust me. I have my plate overflowing, food seeping through, and people wanted to dump more on it. It’s too much. But, if we don’t rest, our work becauses less precise, we are more irritable, and can hinder the work we are trying to do.

As we close, remember to just keep swimming but to also rest and let God manage the pool..

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank you for your patience and reassurance. You tell us to work hard but also tonrest. Remind us that you will provide, take away all pain, and help us complete your plan. We ask for listening wars, an open mind, and a caring heart. We pray this in your name, Amen.

P.S I guess this is timely as I actually feel asleep while writing this #faithbites. God was telling me to rest.
