Setting

Have you ever had your house appraised? I’m getting ready to have the appraisal done here in just a few minutes. Let me tell you, it is nerve-racking. Have the upgrades we did made the house worth more? Is the house clean enough? Will the house appraise for more than we owe? What am I missing? What should I have done before? So many questions and worries.

Now we love our house. We know somethings could be done to make it better, but in general we are happy with you. Lately, we have been able to spend more time and money upgrading our house. We have been blessed with friends who have helped in this. Our house is doing much better. I’m now sure if my self appraisal of the house is going to be what the appraiser says it’s worth, but they are better judges than we are.

Now if we look at our faith and our lives, who do you let appraise you? When we appraise ourselves, are you harder on yourself than you should be? Are you able to see the upgrades God has done in you?

Today’s questions? (I know, I’ve already thrown a lot at you). Are you letting God or other’s appraise your value to him and others? What can you do, with God, to improve your value to him?

Scripture
  • Matthew 10:31 – Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.
  • John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
  • Titus 3:4-7 – But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
Reflection

One more time for the people in the back, GOD LOVES YOU! He values you so much, that he gave his only Son to die on the cross to take away your sins so you can be together. I would say that give you high praise and your worth is top notch. Remember, that our value doesn’t increase or decrease because of our works. We are loved and saved through Christ Jesus. That makes me feel that while others may not value me, God does and that’s what matters.

Many of us, including me, have a hard time seeing ourselves as valuable or worthy of high appraisal value. We judge our physical bodies, our wealth, our accomplishments, and all things that really don’t matter. What we should be looking at is our relationship with God and if we are following his commandments to love Him and love others. We can’t improve our value with God by doing things, works don’t lead to salvation, but we can have a happier quality of life by following his word.

As we close, it doesn’t matter if your siding is new, your roof is holy (see what I did there), but if the Bones are Good and you are one in faith with Christ, you will appraise high.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank you for your sacrifice. We pray today that you remind us our value is from you and not from the world. No matter what the world says, you love us. No matter what we do, you love us. Jesus, take away the feelings of inadequacy and let us rank our value only on you and your word. In your name, Amen
