Setting

I often wonder what tomorrow is going to bring. Am I living the way God wants? Am I doing what I should be? I’m not sure if your brain is spinning all the time asking questions like this? For me, it makes me tired, but it is also fun. God has a way of making it work and forcing us to think about things. On my way to my MRI this morning, I heard, Start Right Here by Casting Crowns.

This song really made me think about how we worship and how we live. Here is a sample of the lyrics

“We want our coffee in the lobby
We watch our worship on a screen
We got a Rockstar preacher
Who won’t wake us from our dreams
We want our blessings in our pocket
We keep our missions overseas
But for the hurting in our cities
Would we even cross the street?”

I’m like the brother of the prodigal
Who turned his nose and puffed his chest
He didn’t run off like his brother
But his soul was just as dead
What if the church on Sunday
Was still the church on Monday too?
What if we came down from our towers
And walked a mile in someone’s shoes?

Today’s questions: What can you start right now to change how you live? What is on your plate?

Scripture
  • Galatians 5:1 – It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
  • Matthew 6:33 – But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
  • Proverbs 13:4 – The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.
  • Luke 12:35 – “Stay dressed for action and keep your lamps burning,
Reflection

Of all the scriptures I read and even the ones I shared, the most important is Luke 12:35. We as Christians, need to always be dressed and keep our lamps burning for Christ. That means we can’t be complacent (living in our towers) and have to share Jesus (rockstar pastors are great but if the message doesn’t go out, we aren’t growing the family). All of this leads to a previous #faithbites on everyplace being Holy Ground and church not just being on Sunday but everyday.

We can say we want to share Jesus and live like him, but without goals how is going to happen? We have to make S.M.A.R.T.E.R goals (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, time-specific, evaluate, and revise). It’s not good enough to have the intent if we don’t step down from our towers and start living, right here, right now.

As we close, remember to be like Jesus. Take time to make your goals, move forward, and start working!
