3:296 – Are You Faithful To Jesus?

Setting

Today is another “Let’s see what God wants me to talk about” day. In other words, I was having a blank and searched for the bible verse of the day. What I found was 1 Kings 8:61, which states, “And may you be completely faithful to the Lord our God. May you always obey his decrees and commands, just as you are doing today.”

What caught me off guard is there are two points to it. The first is about being faithful an obeying God’s law. The second is “just as your are doing today”.

That bring up the question, are we obeying his law? Are we following the 10 commandments or the condensed.”Love God, Love People”? Are we following the commandments in name only or fully?

Are you being faithful to Jesus?

Scripture
  • 1 Kings 8:61 – And may you be completely faithful to the Lord our God. May you always obey his decrees and commands, just as you are doing today
  • Deuteronomy 6:5 – You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.
Reflection

God is always faithful to us, but how faithful are we? If we truly love the Lord with all our heart, all our soul, and all our might, then we live the way he wants to live. The truth is, we ALL fall at this. Not one of us is perfect and need Jesus to forgive us.

It can be anger, jealousy, bigotry, sexism, racism, greed, or hundreds of other sins that stop us from being faithful and obeying.

We have to great gifts from God. One is he always loves us no matter what and two, he gave us Jesus to forgive our sins.

The key is to recognize when we have strayed from his commandments. Sometimes, it’s really hard to to know when we’ve strayed as we think we are doing right. We need to listen to him and listen to those who we trust.

I hope to get better at knowing when I’m using God’s word to justify my sinful actions. I pray that we all can see where we stray so we truly obey his decrees and his commands.

Challenge

Are you always following God? Have you had a time when you’ve strayed or used God’s commandments to justify sin? Pray for guidance and forgiveness so that you don’t make that same mistake again. And if you do, pray again and ask for forgiveness again.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, help us to be faithful to your commandments and your decrees always. We thank you for forgiving us when we stray. We ask for your guidance in helping us discern when we are misusing your word or justifying our sinful ways. Thank you for always being faithful to us no matter what. In your name, Amen.
