Jesus Never Changes
May 5 – I Hope You Can Count On Me
3:126 – I Hope You Can Count On Me

#faithbites #faithjourney count

Are you reliable? Would your friends and coworkers answer the same way? Lately, I’ve been wondering if I am reliable. I have always thought I was, but lately between physical and mental aliments, I wonder. How many things have I let fall through the cracks? How many people have just moved on and left me to the side because I’m not meeting their needs? Is it just me and my brain fighting?

Being reliable is a core characteristic. It’s one that defines who we are. While I don’t know how to answer that question, I do know that Jesus is reliable. He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. You can always count on him!

Scripture
  • Psalm 130:5 – I am counting on the Lord; yes, I am counting on him. I have put my hope in his word.
  • Hebrews 13:8 – Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
  • Numbers 23:19 – God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?
Reflection

Jesus is love. (1 John 4:16) And if he never changes then he loves us forever. He doesn’t disappoint. You can always count on him for love, forgiveness, and salvation. What our faith means is we put our hope in his word. God will answer all of our prayers in his way, by his will, and at his time. We may think he is unreliable when our timing doesn’t match his, but we just need to be patient and see it through his eyes.

How can we be more reliable? Maybe we already are but we are doubting ourselves. Maybe we aren’t and need better ways to track our responsibilities. I need a checklist for me to follow each day to make sure I’m knocking things off. When I’m not, I need someone to smack me around a a bit. Or in nicer parlance, be a check-in buddy.

Know that are you go from this place, you are loved, you are important, and you can always count on Jesus.

Challenge

How can you make yourself more dependable? What works for you? Try making a daily to-do list. When you do, make sure to add time for Jesus and time for rest. These should be near the top of the list and shouldn’t be removed due to lack of time. These two tasks will give you the energy to thrive.

Prayer

Father God, thank you for always being there, yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Help us to emulate you and be reliable. We know you are and you will never leave us. Help us be people who others can count on. Surround us with people who can support us, speak truth into us, and help us be the persons you want us to be. In your name, Amen.
