Feb 3 – Just Being Present
3:34 – Just Being Present

#faithbites #faithjourney present

Having a Bad Hair Day. Nothing Going Right. Feeling Like Crap. Sickness. Financial Issues. So many things that can ruin a persons days. For those of you, like me, who want to help people, sometimes we don’t have the words. There is nothing in our power to change the situation, except to be present.

I spent a lot of time this weekend just being there for my family. Listening when they want to talk, comfort when they need it, and just being there. Too many times, we try to solve a problem with words or actions when there aren’t any. But knowing that a loved one is nearby and willing to help if you need it, even if you don’t ask for it, is comforting.

Just like the friend who never needs to say anything for you to know they are there, God is our friend. Jesus is always there, always present, will never leave us. You may not hear his voice but he is there comforting you.

Scripture
  • Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9
  • Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” – Deuteronomy 31:6
  • The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing. – Zephaniah 3:17
Reflection

It’s hard to see someone in pain. It’s even harder when there seems to be nothing that you can do to help them. In our #faithjourney, we try to emulate Jesus and live like him. He was always there in body or spirit for his followers and for us. Likewise, we can be there for our friends. We don’t need to say anything to let them know they are loved, comforted, and protected.

Your Father in Heaven loves you, exalts you, and will never fore sake you. He is always by your side. You may not hear him or feel him, but he is there.

We wall want to help. Sometimes the most help you can be is just to be present. That’s all it takes. Be present, be quiet, and listen.

Challenge

Is someone you know hurting or in need of comfort. Just be there for them. It may mean doing something or doing nothing. Know that your presence is all they need. Let them know you are there for them or even just to be a body in the room for them. This will provide more comfort than you know.

Prayer

Father God, thank you for your eternal presence. Thank you for always being there no matter what, even if we think you aren’t there. Help us to be that comfort and presence for others. Our words may not be needed or even our actions, but our presence can provide comfort. Help us know when to speak, when to do, and when just to be there. You know the best way to help your people, help us to have that knowledge as well. In your name, Amen.
