September 14 – Would You Buy A Ticket To Your Life’s Movie?
2:257 – Would You Buy A Ticket To Your Life’s Movie?

#faithbites #faithjourney #RedLetterChallenge Movie

Going to the movies is a great past time of mine. Even more fun is discussing the movie with friends. Theories, ideas, and extrapolations on the plot make the movie-going experience even more fun. When you think about your life, would you want to watch the movie? Is it a boring one or one filled with service and adventure?

We talk about being a follower of Christ or living a Godly life, but are we doing the work that needs to be done? Are we moving in the right direction or letting the days pass one after the other?

Scripture

For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing. – James 1:23-25

Reflection

We are called to be people of action, to get going. It doesn’t mean impulsive action, but rather action with purpose. We are not hearers of the word, but doers.

As part of the red letter challenge, we are going to be asked to step outside of our comfort zone and get going. Where that going is, I have no idea. But if we want to live like Christ and move “immediately” from place to place (or service to service), we need to get going.

Challenge

Are you watching the days go by and waiting for change? Maybe you are expecting change to come out of the sky. The way change happens is by making choices, by going, and ultimately using the skills God has given you. Make a commitment to get going!

Prayer

Heavenly God, thank you for your word and your example in Christ. He didn’t wait around for things to happen. Rather, he went “right away” or “immediately”, from place to place. He didn’t count the days as they passed. Help us to be like Jesus and take action. Change us from heaers to doers. Let our movie of life be one that we want to watch and want you to be proud of. In your gracious name, Amen.
