2:235 – Too Tired Too Listen
#faithbites #faithjourney listen
Have you ever been so tired that you can’t think straight? Today, my youngest had her first full day of kindergarten. When she got home, she was beat, but wouldn’t admit it. We didn’t go to dinner because she screamed about going to the bathroom. Everything was a fight. Then she said she didn’t want to go back to school because her arm hurts because her teacher made her color too much. She was done.
We often get to a point of being done. It’s when no matter what we do, things don’t seem to go right. It’s when. No matter what we say, others done understand. It could be that we just can’t listen to any feedback or direction.
It’s when we get to this point, that we need rest. We need to know that no matter what happens, God has our back. It’s ok to admit you are done and after rest, come back and try again.
Scripture
- “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.” – Psalm 4:8
- “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” – Isaiah 40:29
-
“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” – Philippians 4:13
Reflection
We all need rest. God tells us he will give us rest, strength, and power. The hardest thing for us that we need to admit we need rest. We go, go, go and think we can keep going.
Just like my youngest, who thinks he doesn’t need rest and keeps going, we need it.
I once read an article that when you sleep, your brain get rids of garbage and waste products when we are sleeping. Our soul needs to get rid of the waste through Christ.
It’s hard for my daughter to admit it. Can you admit when you need rest?
Charge
Step 1, admit you need physical and spiritual rest. This includes being honest with ourselves and others when asked to take on addition challenges. Step 2, take the rest you need. You are no good to the Lord if your body and spirit are not energizes. Sleep, pray, reenergize.
Prayer
Lord, thank you for your gift of strength and rest. As with all your gifts, help us to accept that we need them. Take away our hubris and stubbornness, so we may accept them. Lord, we may not admit it, but we need you. Be with us and grant us rest. In your name, Amen.
