May 17 – My Power Is Heart
2:137 – My Power Is Heart

#faithbites #faithjourney heart

Back in the 90s there was a cartoon called Captain Planet and the Planeteers. He was a superhero for the environment who came when five kids used their power rings to summon him. Each kid had a different power: Earth, wind, water, fire, and HEART. Yes, heart was a power.

I also thought that was the most ridiculous power. The four eleemnts could control their respective element and do amazing things. Then their was heart. I always felt he was just there to be there.

As an adult, I try to measure myself against others. I have friends who are artists, woodworkers, doctor’s, builders, politicians, pastors, and so much more. I don’t build anything.

Then as I was leaving work, I realized my power is heart, and it’s needed for all the others to thrive.

Scripture
  • Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.Proverbs 4:23
  • Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.Matthew 5:8
  • You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.Jeremiah 29:13
Reflection

Heart may not control the elements, but heart builds relationships. Having Heart connects people. When we are down and struggling having someone to listen, to give advice, and help, is what we all need. That is the power of heart

I told a joke today at work and one the students ask what I do becuase he sees me walking around, telling jokes. My response was telling jokes and being present is part of building community, listening and empowering. That is heart.

All three of our verses point to the important of our hearts. We need to guard our heart, follow our heart, be true in heart, and then we will find God.

Those with this power can share it and help others grow in love. So poor Ma-Ti couldn’t do what the other four could, but he was the one brought them together.

Are you wondering what your gift is? Are you struggling to make or do like others do? Maybe your give is the power of heart. Nourish that gift by listening and connecting with others. It’s a gift as powerful as all the others.

Prayer

Lord, thank you for the many gifts you gift us. Sometimes, we can’t see or don’t understand our gifts as they aren’t as obvious as others. Let us all know the beauty and strength of the heart power. Let’s see it as valuable as any other gift, if not more valuable. Allow us to all connect through Christ, who has the ultimate heart power in his forgiveness. In your name, Amen.
