March 11 – Is God Working for Me?
2:70 – Is God Working For Me?

#faithbites #faithjourney God

When people ask how I’m doing, I usually say busy or something else. I should and have been doing better saying, I am blessed. The truth it, I am blessed. I have a good job, family, house, car, church life, everything. Is it perfect no? Are there circumstances I wish I could change, of course.

When I have down days, and sometimes there are many, I wonder am I doing enough to gain God’s blessing. Is he even there for me? I know in my heart of hearts he is, but sometimes it’s really difficult to see it when surrounded by self-doubt and bad choices.

It’s usually only when I look back and think “How in the heck did I survive that?, do I remember that my works don’t gain me favor with God, rather he is always there trying to protect me.

Scripture
  • For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. – Ephesians 2:8-9
  • No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. – 1 Corinthians 10:13
  • But the Lord is faithful and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one. – 2 Thessalonians 3:3
Reflection

We’ve talked several times that our works don’t get us into heaven. That by Grace and faith alone are we saved. Likewise, God doesn’t rely on us and “charge” us a service fee for his protection. He won’t let any temptation not common over power us and in those situations there is always a way out. We just need to look for it and use the tools he gave us

Similarly sometimes we don’t think God is protecting us or directing us on the right path. The funny thing is, that’s usually when he is battling the demons all around us that we can’t see. If we think something is hard now, imagine is he wasn’t there. While we never test God (Deuteronomy 6:16), it is nice to know that he is there doing battle on a daily basis for us.

This is a long way to say, that it doesn’t matter how we serve God as long as we have faith in the resurrected Christ, God will protect us. We are undeserving of that Grace but he is always there, no matter how little we think we are doing.

Charge

Have you had a God moment lately? A time to reflect on what the Lord has protected you from? Have you given thanks to Him for that? Take a couple minutes to thank him for battling the evil that seeks to tempt us and take us away from our father.

Prayer

Glorious God, thank you all that you do. Thank you for going to battle day after day to protect us from the evils out there. Help us to remember that our works don’t grant us or deserve your Grace. You give it freely to us on a daily basis. Let us remember that and bask in your love and your light. In your name, Amen
