February 1 – To Love One Another
2:32 – To Love One Another

#faithbites #faithjourney another

Today I had a man from Chicago come to deliver medical supplies to get ready for surgery. After we had everything set up, he asked me if I had any questions. Me, being the smart alec that I am, asked him “What’s the meaning of life?”. Without missing a beat, he said “To Love One Another”. I said Amen. He then said our purpose here to to love each other. I then said, that’s what Jesus said. Love God, Love People.

It really is that simple. Spread love, not hate. Share opportunity, not threats. Give joy, not pain.

Scripture
  • “But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and me.” – Ruth 1:16-17
  • My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. John 15:12-13
  • This is what the Lord requires of you: Do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God.” – Micah 6:8
Reflection

Love is truly why we are here. To be connected to each other. To love one another. Throughout the Bible our God shows love. Yes, in the Old Testament he was a God of Wrath, but there was love. In the New Testament, everything Christ does is love.

I was touched by that man today as he shared his belief. Today, I told a few of our students that I would be out for surgery. She offered her prayers, her families prayers, and was going to send me something.

If we concentrate on our love for each other as God loves us, what a wonderful world we can make.

Charge

If someone asks you what the meaning of life is, how do you respond? I normally say 42, but imagine if we said it was to love one another. Try that with someone and see how they react. Better yet, show your love through true compassion in all that you do. You will be amazed at the changes you see.

Prayer

Dear God, how great you are. How amazing it is that you show us love and want us to show love to all people. Help us to know how to show that love. When our lives and minds are clouded, help us to remember that love does conquer all. We are your workmanship, and you are love. In your heavenly name, Amen.
