They say the strangest things come out of the mouths of babes. They also say to have child-like faith. Tonight was no exception.
At dinner, we were talking about my upcoming surgery. The girls wanted to know about the procedure from getting to the hospital to the IV to going to sleep even the actual surgery. I talked them through each step. At one point, my youngest said: Daddy, don’t be scared. Jesus is there. It came out of nowhere, but it hit me to the core. If she can have a faith like that, shouldn’t I? She knows that God wants us to do good and will help us.
After that, we e went to get ice cream. (yes, I know it’s in the middle of the polar vortex, don’t judge). She asked me why I pray every night. I told her because I need help, I can’t do it by myself. She said God helps and she helps sometimes. When we helps it’s good and God likes it.
So there you have it, from the mouths of babes.
Our scriptures today showcase how much Jesus emphasizes the worth and faith of children. He has given us an exemplar in how to practice our faith. At the same time, we have an obligation to train them in the way they should go.
This means that we need to bring children to the Lord and give them the scriptures. At the same time, we should listen to the children and believe as they believe.
I’ve said this for a long time, my faith is here and strong because of the example I’ve seen in my eldest. Her faith is amazing and her sister’s is growing the same. I have doubts, concerns, and fears, where they have known. They should serve as my example as the Lord has told us they do.
Do you have little ones in your life? Have you exposed them to the Lord? If so, have you listened to how they pray or what they do? I urge to do try it once in a while. The words and pure faith they show is awe inspiring and inspirational.
Lord, help me to have the faith of a child. Let me forget all of my fears, worries, and concerns. Allow me to trust as fully, deeply, and passionately as the children do. Lord, let us listen to the children around us. Let us remember that while they are young, they are your exemplars in faith. In your heavenly name, Amen.
