January 1 – Following Through with Baby Steps

2:1 – Following Through with Baby Steps

#faithbites #faithjourney baby

Happy New Year everyone. Some say a new year, a new you. Others say this is a new book with 365 chapters for you to write. Still, others say, it’s just another day. I look at the new year in the same way, I’m trying to look at everything else: while there is a destination, the path begins with one step.

Many of us drive long distances to get from point A to point B. The mile markers (along with GPS) help us know where we are, can help us estimate when we will get there, and make other choices like when to get gas, when to get food, and the all important bathroom breaks.

Whenever you start something new having a clear goal is important, but more important is the baby steps to get there.

When I first started writing my dissertation, I thought here was no way, I could ever right something that long. Once I started to break it into chapters, sections, and bullet points, it made it much easier.

Likewise is my faithjourney. I want to know everything there is about Christianity. Heck, when I was younger, I even said I was going to read the whole bible starting at Genesis 1:1 and going through Revelation. Needless to say, I never made it. I didn’t have any baby steps lines out.

What are your baby steps for growing you faith?

Scripture
  • A person’s steps are directed by the Lord.
How then can anyone understand their own way? – Proverbs 20:24
  • Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. – Proverbs 3:5-6
  • The Lord will command the blessing on you in your barns and in all that you undertake. And he will bless you in the land that the Lord your God is giving you. – Deuteronomy 28:8
Reflection

There is no manual in life on how to accomplish certain tasks. You can’t pick up the Bible and say how do I build a house. It’s not like a YouTube tutorial that shows you step by step. (Not to mention some of those videos are just wrong).

What the Bible does tell us is that God directs our steps. When we trust in him and acknowledge him, we will know what steps we need to take. The Lord wants good things for us and will bless us in all that we do, as our will comes from him. The key is understanding that and taking baby steps.

Charge

Do you have a project, a task, or a goal awaiting you? Maybe you are nervous, anxious, or scared because it is too daunting. First, pray about it and ask for guidance. Next, think of reasonable chunks or baby steps for getting it done. If a step is too big, chunk it up. It doesn’t matter how small the step is, as long as you are moving forward.

Prayer

Heavenly father, as we start this new year, give us your strength to accomplish all the goals and plans you have for us. Give us your insight to know how to make baby steps so that these massive changes are in easy to accomplish steps. Let us know that these steps are in your plan and that you will always be with us. Amen.
