October 6 – The Leaders We Deserve?
279 – The Leaders We Deserve?

#faithbites #faithjourney Leaders

A new Supreme Court Justice confirmed. In 30 days we will vote for local, state, and national representatives. 758 days from now we will elect our next president. In between those formal elections, we will make numerous appointments to leadership positions. But what does our selection of leaders say about us?

Many were upset at the last presidential election. The country seems divided tonight after our new Supreme Court Justice was appointed. In Illinois, our gubernatorial election is one of the most expensive and ugliest on record. Even our local county elections show a divisiveness in leadership that I have never seen before. But are these the leaders we deserve? Is the government that should represent us?

Scripture
  • When the righteous increase, the people rejoice, but when the wicked rule, the people groan.- Proverbs 29:2
  • Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. – Romans 13:1
  • If a king faithfully judges the poor, his throne will be established forever. – Proverbs 29:14
  • It is an abomination to kings to do evil, for the throne is established by righteousness. – Proverbs 16:12
Reflection

I am a firm believer in democracy, freedom, and equality of opportunity. I also believe in one God, he is our authority. We need to listen to him and his plan for us. When we have our leaders look out for the poor, the infirm, and the helpless, they will lead forever. When our leaders do evil, it is an abomination to God.

What am I trying to say right now? We will choose good and bad leaders. We will feel that this person is evil or this person is our salvation. All through this, there is one God, one king. He will guide us, love us, and get us through these trials and tribulations. I have faith that he will guide us and our leaders.

Charge

Are you not happy with how our country is going? Vote. If you don’t like the choices, run? If you are feeling lost, confused, or troubled. Pray. The Lord is with us. All authority comes from him. Remember that when the news gets you down. Remember that when false prophets come forward. There is one King.

Lord, help me to not be sucked into the vitriol of our politics. Allow peace and love to prevail in the hearts of all. Change the hearts of those leaders who do evil. Strengthen the hearts of those leaders who serve your will.
