July 7 – Is it Bed Time or I’m Exhausted
188 – Is it Bed Time or I’m Exhausted

#FaithBites #FaithJourney Exhausted

When we are young, most of us don’t want to sleep. We run, run, run until we pass out. Naps are evil and getting to sleep as a child is torture. As an adult, we want naps and sleep. I remember a few years ago, my wife and I were talking about what we did before we had kids. The answer: We Slept More. I don’t know about you, but I can’t get enough now.

Last night, my youngest as I went camping. After about three minutes of her in bed, she climbed into my bed for the rest of the night. Here I was, in a twin sized bed, at the edge, with no covers. Top that off with a long day of camping, swimming, crabby child, and driving, and I am beat. I almost went to sleep without writing tonights Faithbite.

As people we get tired and exhausted, but does God?

Scripture on God Not Tiring
  • Do you not know?
        Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom. – Isaiah 40:23
  • he will not falter or be discouraged
till he establishes justice on earth.
In his teaching the islands will put their hope. – Isaiah 42:4
  • Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.” – Mark 10:27
Reflection on Exhausted and Tired

God does not tire. He is always there, always powerful, and always reigning. Man get tired and exhausted. We need rest. After the 6 days of creation, God didn’t rest because he was tired, he rested to reflect on what he has made for all of us. He made the Sabbath day holy for us to reflect and rest. I know I don’t rest on the Sabbath, heck, I don’t rest enough in general. I know God strengthens me and is my light.

Today when we were walking the trail, I saw exhaustion on my daughters face. She didn’t want to take one more step. No coaxing or coddling her would change that. She was done. It took a long time of rest, arts and crafts to start to get her back to her self. The food and swimming, and slowly she was back….at least for a couple minutes. She crashed before we even got to the highway on the way home.

That is what exhaustion looks like. We like to choose to go to sleep and rest, exhaustion is when your body makes that choice. While my flesh may be tired, my spirit soars. I know God is working to bring justice on earth, and we are here to help.

Charge

First, think about your life. Do you have a routine in life for regeneration and rest:? If not, think about what that would look like. Second, make a habit of doing or not doing things to help you get your rest. Lastly, remember God never tires. Are you willing to accept this challenge and be more restful?

I am willing to accept with the help of God.
