June 12 – I Hope You Feel Small When You Stand Beside the Ocean

#164of365 #FaithBites #FaithJourney

I hope you feel small when your standing by the ocean.

Flying into the sunset, at 29,000 feet, over the mountains, you feel small. You can no longer see any traces of humanity. You are but a dot in the universe.

You are no longer in control. You are reliant on the pilot and his or her skills, the pilot is reliant on the mechanic’s ability to keep the plane in good shape, you are reliant on the plane and the weather. If something were to happen at this altitude, there would probably be no trace of you.  You will vanish.

Why am I saying this? Am I trying to be morbid? Am I trying to scare myself and others? (It is a bit scary when you look at the window and think about it.)  No. I’m saying this to help show our place in the world. I do know that if something happened to me, the Lord would look after my family and I would be with him.

Sometimes we feel bigger than we are. We feel that our hopes, wants, dreams, and desires are more important than everyone else’s’. We do everything in our power to feel large; to make ourselves feel important. Why? Because when we do this, we feel more connected, more in control. But we still feel alone, disconnected, and unwanted.

Other times, we feel smaller than we are. We are less than the dot of humanity. Nothing we do is good enough. We are not part of any plan. We are insignificant to those around us and to the universe as a whole. This disconnected, insignificant, and alone feel is destructive. IT can lead to loss of relationships and self-destructive behaviors up to and including suicide. We feel alone, disconnected, and unwanted.

We are not insignificant. We are not unwanted. We are not unloved. We are not bigger than we are nor are we smaller than we are. We are surrounded, connected, and wanted by God.

“You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised” – Isaiah 43:4

“You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised” – Hebrews 10:63

God has a plan for us. We were known before we were born. (Jerimiah 1:5). God has a master plan for the universe and we are part of it.

When we act bigger than we are, we are trying to compensate for something. When we feel smaller than we are, we are trying to compensate for something.

This something is a lack of connectedness, a feeling of a need to prove something to be accepted and successful. We are already successful in the eyes of God. He knows us, loves us, and wants us.

We just need to know that we have a place in his plan. If we take ourselves out, we interrupt God’s plan. We have a role to play and he with strengthen and protect us.

Are you ready to accept that you are loved, wanted, you have a purpose, and God loves you?

I am ready, though it may be hard, with the help of God.
